Tribute to Paul Wheatley

It is with great sorrow that we have to advise our members that Paul Wheatley has passed away after a short illness. Paul was the driving force behind the founding of our Club and the establishment of our WellBeings group.

In addition to being an honorary lifetime member of GWFC, Paul was also a highly influential and well known figure in the wider walking football world. He was a respected coach at ladies national level and at men’s regional level in addition to volunteering to promote the game internationally, most recently in Rwanda.

He played at national level for England and Guernsey. He also volunteered extensively in supporting people with mobility issues in the community. If ever there was an example of the phrase “To get a job done, give it to a busy man” it applied to Paul.

Our sympathies and thoughts are with Paul’s wife Jacqui, daughters Jo and Kay who share Paul’s passion for football and grandaughter Esme.
