Guernsey Walking Footballers Compete in Jersey’s Heineken Cup
Guernsey Walking Football Club was invited to Jersey to take part in the JFA’s annual season-opening Walking Football tournament, the Heineken Cup, proudly sponsored by Randalls.
The competition took place at St Peter’s Football Ground, featuring 10 teams – eight from Jersey and two from Guernsey. Teams were split into two groups of five, playing a round-robin format, with the top two from each group progressing to the semi-finals and then on to the final.
Guernsey Green put in a strong performance across their four group games, recording two draws and two narrow defeats. In their final match, they were on course to secure a place in the semi-finals but heartbreakingly conceded two late goals in the closing seconds, narrowly missing out on qualification.
Guernsey Blue also played four matches, battling hard but finishing with three defeats and one draw.
Despite the results, both teams relished the opportunity to face new opposition and experience a highly competitive but friendly tournament atmosphere.
The organisers expressed their thanks to GWFC for making the trip, noting how valuable it is for Jersey sides to play against different teams. They extended a warm invitation for Guernsey to return in 2026.
The tournament was ultimately won by Portuguese, who successfully defended their title from 2024.
