GWFC Represents at International Invitational Tournament
Last month, 18 members from Guernsey Walking Football Club's Over 50s and 60s teams traveled to the UK to compete in the International Invitational Walking Football Tournament, hosted at Redditch United FC.
This unique event brought together 30 teams from across the globe, including England, Ireland, Wales, Poland, and Peru, for a round-robin competition organized by the England Walking Football Community, following FA rules.
Though walking football is a slower-paced variation of the game, it’s full of passion and commitment. The sport continues to grow, offering men and women over 50 the opportunity to stay active while enjoying the social benefits of being part of a team.
While the results didn’t go our way, the weekend was a huge success. We scored some goals, made new friends, and had a fantastic time.
Player Reflections:
- "We certainly did ourselves and Guernsey proud. Onwards and upwards – we know the levels we need to reach, and they are very achievable."
- "Great memories and friends made."
- "Absolutely brilliant time away, making memories as they say. Superb planning and organization. Loads of potential to improve—the bar is already higher for the next tournament!"
- "Really enjoyed the trip—the camaraderie, banter, and football. It was a steep learning curve, but we gave a good account of ourselves. Well played, everyone."
A special thanks to Aspida for their financial support, making our participation in this event possible.
