Martel to Compete for First over-75's International
Geoff Martel has been selected for the England first team for the inaugural international match in the over-75s category. The match against Wales will take place at Merthyr Tydfil on 13 April. Martel was chosen after impressing in a four-team tournament between England 70’s A and B league teams.
The Guernseyman featured for England B and he scored the winner in their opening match, a 2-1 win over South A. He was on the scoresheet twice and also had an assist in their next outing, a 6-2 victory against South B.
'Having seen that the England A team had drawn their first two, we had nothing to lose in our last game against them,; said Martel. 'We controlled most of the play and early on I was fortunate to score from distance as the ball went under the diving keeper. We kept the pressure on them and I hit the upright, but they were awarded a penalty late on which was converted and made for an Martel's four goals made him the top scorer for the tournament and he was the only player to play every.
